In Memory of Theodore Joseph Foss
Published on WDIO-TV - August 31, 2009
Nine years ago Monday, Minnesota State Trooper Ted Foss died in the line of duty. He was killed during a traffic stop in southern Minnesota.
A law was created after Foss' death, to make it safer for law enforcement and maintenance vehicles.
The "Move Over Law" requires motorists to slow down and move away from emergency/maintenance vehicles who are on the side of the road.
On the 9th anniversary of Foss' death, Mn-DOT put up two signs on I-35 in Duluth, that remind people about the law.
Captain Steve Stromback was Foss' partner for 12 years. He said the day was bittersweet.
A voluntary firefighter from Esko, Kim Granholm, was struck and killed in 2002 while responding to an auto accident.
You are not required by law to move over if it is a stranded motorist. But the state patrol urges people to give the common courtesy and move over anyways.
