Troopers help kids Coast to Coast at Christmas

From Oregon to New Jersey, and most places in between, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse, but the state troopers were out in full force to spread Christmas cheer.

Members of the Oregon State Police helped underprivileged kids shop for Christmas gifts during the annual Shop with a Cop event, sponsored in part by AAST. This year's event paired nearly 700 children with law enforcement officers for three separate shopping events.

Across the country in New Jersey, 13 troopers from the Somerville Barracks of the New Jersey State Police visited patients at St. Peter's Children's Hospital to deliver gifts and smiles on Christmas Eve.

"Too many times people only see the serious and stern side of us," said Project Santa organizer Lt. Robert Catullo, adding that the hospital visit allows families to see the compassionate side of troopers.

State troopers with the Colorado State Patrol participated in the annual Christmas Crusade for Children, which has touched the lives of over 200,000 kids since inception. West Virginia detachments served as drop-off points for Salvation Army donations, while members of the Maryland State Police helped deliver toys to needy children. The New York State Police was actively involved with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots campaign, while members of the Arizona Department of Public Safety distributed Christmas bears to hospitalized children.

Several troopers across Louisiana also got involved in holiday community events, including Troop B's help with underprivileged families, as well as members of Troop F adopting children at the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home.

State troopers in many other states helped spread holiday cheer as well, and we especially thank the troopers who spent their days off to visit underprivileged and hospitalized children. Your presence in the community is invaluable, and the lives you touched, incomparable.
