David, Mary, and Patrick Gregg, left to right,
have received a total of eight scholarships from AAST.

AAST’s highly acclaimed scholarship program has provided over $1.9 million in scholarships to troopers’ children over the years, and both students and their parents are grateful.

First-time recipients receive a $500 scholarship, while students maintaining a minimum 3.5 grade point average during the first scholarship period qualify for a $1,000 scholarship. A third AAST scholarship of $1,000 is available to students who maintain a minimum 3.8 GPA during the second scholarship period. AAST has awarded scholarships to 2,622 students since the program’s inception in 1990.

Several families have had multiple recipients, such as the family of Capt. Gerry Gregg (ret.) of the Oregon State Police, whose three children have earned a total of eight AAST scholarships.

Patrick Gregg, who received three scholarships from AAST, graduated from the University of Portland in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in political science and Spanish. He then attended Willamette University Law School, graduating in 2009. He is now practicing law in Pendleton, Ore.

David Gregg, who also received three AAST scholarships, graduated from the University of Portland in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in history and German studies, with a minor in environmental policy. He received a Fulbright Scholarship and spent the 2008-2009 school year in Hallebrun, Austria, teaching English. He will be attending Georgetown University, School of Foreign Service in the fall.

Mary Gregg is a junior at the University of Portland, School of Nursing, and has received two AAST scholarships so far.

Gerry has shown his appreciation for these scholarships by making a donation to the AAST Scholarship Foundation, and he encourages his fellow troopers to also support the program in this important way. His children’s note below resonates the appreciation of countless scholarship recipients who have written notes of thanks to the AAST Scholarship Foundation.
