The Oregon State Police recently partnered with other law enforcement agencies in Oregon to support a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration campaign, “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.”

The campaign began two weeks ahead of the Labor Day weekend holiday, a traditionally deadly time on Oregon’s roadways. The campaign kicked off in Portland, where Oregon Drug Recognition Experts and experienced Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants officers conducted a “wet lab” that included local media celebrities, to highlight the dangers of getting behind the wheel after too many drinks. Wet labs involve volunteers who consume various amounts of alcohol and are then tested by police officers through field sobriety tests to demonstrate the intoxicating effects of alcohol and how these effects relate to driving.

The OSP’s DUII enforcement motor home, equipped with Intoxilyzers, a holding cell, and report writing area, is deployed around the state for special events to assist Oregon troopers and local law enforcement in their efforts to combat DUII drivers. It also serves as a mobile command post for special operations.
