AAST members help West Virginia trooperCpl. Andrew P. Pringle and Tpr. G. P. Honaker of the West Virginia State Police Harrisville Detachment had initiated a traffic stop along WVRT47 on April 24 and were conducting field sobriety tests on a suspected impaired driver when another impaired driver sideswiped Pringle’s cruiser and struck both officers. Pringle sustained serious injuries, including a broken leg and head trauma. Pringle was the field training officer for Honaker, who had been out of the Academy for only one week and received minor injuries in the crash. Pringle’s family is in need of financial assistance because of the multitude of expenses they will face during his recovery. Support by the WVSP, the West Virginia Troopers Association, and other entities has reportedly been tremendous. After multiple surgeries and weeks in the hospital, Pringle recently returned home to continue his therapy at local facilities. AAST Executive Director Ken Howes notifies AAST membership via e-mail when a serious need arises in the state trooper family, as he did with Pringle’s situation. With past incidents, AAST members have generously given thousands of dollars for troopers in need. AAST members from across the country responded to the financial need of the Pringle family and sent checks totaling nearly $4,000, all of which were sent directly to the Pringle family, in addition to the donation sent by AAST from its Brotherhood Assistance Fund. “I had the pleasure to talk with Corporal Pringle in August, and was impressed with his positive attitude and strong desire to return to full duty with the West Virginia State Police,” Howes said. “He also wanted me to pass on his appreciation for the financial support he and his family have received from AAST members throughout the country,” added Howes. You can track Pringle’s progress on Facebook.com by entering “Prayers and Support for Trooper Andy Pringle.” |
