Spiffy troopers patrol in Mississippi, Washington
The sharp dressers of the Mississippi Highway Patrol and Washington State Patrol understand the concept that if you want to be the best, you need to look your best. The North American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors announced the winners of its Public Safety Awards competition in April. As uniforms are an integral component of any public safety program, the awards emphasize the importance of professional, neat, well fitted, and immediately identifiable uniforms in police, fire, and other first-responder public safety programs. “We are honored to receive this prestigious recognition,” said Col. Mike Berthay of the MHP. “We are proud of our attention to detail. The uniform mirrors the same diligent attention our men and women bring to their jobs.” Winners were selected in eight categories, ranging from small city police departments to large special agencies, with the MHP and WSP tying in the state category. Last year the WSP held this honor alone, marking the first time a department has won in two consecutive years. “It’s especially gratifying to win with the uniforms that employees actually wear on the job,” said WSP Chief John R. Batiste. “When a member of the public contacts the state patrol, they know immediately they’re dealing with a professional.” NAUMD is a trade association representing the interests and needs of its members who manufacture, design, produce, or sell uniforms and uniform accessories or who provide products and or services to the uniform industry. The award is based on submission of entry with photographs, history, and explanation of each of the different working uniforms worn by the department. For further details, visit www.naumd.com. |
