Message From The President: Why AAST is Different

Keith Barbier, President
Texas Department of Public Safety
Lieutenant (ret.)
HISTORY
Since its inception in 1989, AAST has maintained the goal of improving the lives of our member state troopers by offering numerous benefits and services. AAST has never been a collective bargaining unit, nor engaged in lobbying. The Association has always set itself apart from politics and exists to support fellow active and retired troopers and their families when they're not at work. You will see that our list of benefits reflects that commitment.
FOR TROOPERS, BY TROOPERS
The Association is managed solely by its members, consisting of state troopers who volunteer their time to serve on our Board of Directors. AAST is the only national organization to offer membership exclusively to individual active and retired state troopers, highway patrol officers, and state police officers.
We take pride in offering real assistance to the men and women who patrol our highways day-in and day-out, protecting America and its people, and to our retired members, who have already completed their law enforcement careers.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
One of our most highly touted benefits is the scholarship program, it has provided over $2.6 million in scholarships to our members' children.
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
We are also extremely proud of our members' involvement in the community through fundraisers, holiday events to help the less fortunate, and educational events. AAST proudly partners with various organizations in these endeavors. We have also been involved with organizations and events who share our vision, including Concerns of Police Survivors, the Uniformed Safety Education Officers Workshop, and the National Police Shooting Championships.
TROOPER CAMARADERIE
The membership benefit I have heard troopers talking most about over the years is our brotherhood. It is an honor to make a Brotherhood Assistance donation to families of troopers killed in the line of duty and to financially assist injured troopers or those facing other hardships. Please browse our website to see the other programs with which we are involved.
As you explore our website, you will be able to find information about donating to AAST and the AAST Foundation. To keep membership dues affordable, we rely on the generosity of the public to help us provide an array of valuable services for our members. On our site, you will also learn more about AAST and our commitment to serving America's state troopers.
AAST is privileged to have a role in uniting brother and sister troopers from around the country. Thank you for your continued membership. If you're not a member yet, we would be honored to have you join us.
